Government Implements New Policy on Passport Applications for Lebanese Residents in Sierra Leone

In a recent development announced during the Ministry of Information and Civic Education's weekly press briefing, Hon. Alusine Kanneh, the Chief Immigration Officer, disclosed significant alterations to the passport application process for Lebanese residents in Sierra Leone.

Addressing concerns about security, Hon. Alusine Kanneh emphasized that Lebanese individuals residing in Sierra Leone would no longer be permitted to obtain Sierra Leone passports remotely. This decision aims to enhance security measures and ensure the integrity of the passport issuance process.

The Chief Immigration Officer highlighted the latest upgrades to the passport application forms, including the incorporation of the National Identification Number (NIN). This additional layer of security is designed to authenticate the identity of applicants and prevent unauthorized access by non-Sierra Leoneans.

Speaking about the challenges faced by the Immigration Department, Hon. Alusine Kanneh acknowledged historical issues such as overcrowding, which he attributed to inadequate accommodation and the involvement of unauthorized personnel in illicit activities. However, he assured the public that steps have been taken to address these issues effectively.

These measures reflect the government's commitment to bolstering border security and protecting the integrity of Sierra Leonean passports. By prioritizing the interests and security of its citizens, the government aims to ensure that passport issuance processes are transparent and in compliance with national security standards.

Overall, the implementation of this new policy underscores the government's proactive approach to safeguarding national security and ensuring the proper administration of passport services in Sierra Leone.
