Heavy Rainfall Triggers Public Warning in Freetown

Heavy Rainfall Triggers Public Warning in Freetown

The Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency (SLMet) has issued an urgent warning following significant rainfall in Freetown. Between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM today, 106mm of rain was recorded, leading to concerns about potential flooding in the city and other regions.

With the ground already saturated from previous rain, the heavy downpour increases the risk of flooding, especially in low-lying areas and those with poor drainage. SLMet advises residents to take precautions, avoid unnecessary travel, and be cautious on waterlogged roads. Those in flood-prone areas are encouraged to move to higher ground and secure their belongings.

SLMet continues to monitor weather patterns and will provide updates as necessary. The agency is working with local disaster management to ensure a quick response if needed. Residents should stay informed through local news and SLMet’s official channels. Community leaders and emergency services are ready to assist and facilitate evacuations if required.
