Ibrahima Kalil Diallo:

Ibrahima Kalil Diallo: "Why I Chose to Enter Politics"

Conakry – Ibrahima Kalil Diallo has traded his journalist's pen and microphone for the realm of politics. In this interview, the former media professional discusses his motivations and ambitions for the future.

Why did you decide to get involved in politics?

Ibrahima Kalil Diallo: Thank you for this thoughtful question. Today, many young people are turning to politics, a trend I’ve observed for years. For over 13 years, I’ve studied the challenges that prevent our country from progressing.

Despite the efforts made, we remain stuck in cycles of division and power monopolization. As a journalist, I tried to expose these issues and raise public awareness. However, I eventually realized that criticism alone isn’t enough. To effect real change, one must take action. That’s why I decided to become an active participant, working directly to influence decisions and drive policies that benefit our nation.

What resources will you use to achieve this?

My greatest resource is people. We’ve built a skilled and passionate team ready to work for the country’s advancement. Contrary to popular belief, money isn’t the most important starting point; ideas attract funding.

Our movement is fueled by innovative ideas and practical solutions to pull Guinea out of its current deadlock. Beyond ideas, I rely on my determination, courage, and commitment to navigate this path. Many global leaders started with limited resources but gained support through compelling projects. We plan to follow a similar approach, staying true to our principles.

What are your thoughts on the current transition?

The ongoing transition has been disappointing. The leaders who seized power on September 5, 2021, pledged to establish true democracy and hold free, transparent elections. Unfortunately, they’ve reneged on these promises.

Today, we see a worsening of restrictions on fundamental freedoms, far beyond what existed before. The justifications for the coup now seem baseless. Freedoms are being suppressed, citizens abducted, the press silenced, and fear is spreading. This transition has betrayed its commitments, plunging the country into deeper uncertainty.

What steps will you take to address this situation?

Our priority is to educate Guineans about the importance of unity around shared values. Mobilizing against rising authoritarianism and restoring democracy is essential. Passivity will get us nowhere. We must unite to safeguard the future of our nation and prevent it from falling into the hands of narrow interests.

Do you plan to join a coalition or political party?

For now, we’ve established an independent political movement to amplify our voice. However, we remain open to any initiative that fosters a sustainable, representative democracy in Guinea. We will support alliances that align with our vision and values.
