Information Minister BA joins UN Feminists in supporting girls' education at 2023 conference

Sierra Leone`s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Honorable Chernor Bah, actively engaged with prominent feminists within the UN community during the 2023 Feminist Network For Gender Transformative Education Conference.

 

The discussions revolved around their shared commitments to the United Nations Girls` Education Initiative, UNGEI.

 

The Feminist Network For Gender Transformative Education is a United Nations Girls` Education Initiative, a global partnership, and platform for girls` education and gender equality in and through education; it is a convening of powerful feminist voices working together to accelerate progress towards gender transformative education around the world.

 

The theme for 2023 was “Building Just and Equal Societies: the Power of Gender Transformative Education”, and it marked the second time UNGEI had brought together extraordinary feminist leaders to advance gender-transformative education around the world

 

The conference also seeks to ensure that all learners, regardless of gender or sex, are supported with gender-transformative education to realize their full potential and contribute to achieving equal, just societies including by removing barriers to girls` and women`s rights.

 

In an interview, Minister Bah affirmed the importance of these values to Sierra Leone and praised President Bio`s commitment to radical inclusion in education. The Minister assured that the political education agenda he is charged with implementing in Sierra Leone is feminist and contains strong elements of gender transformative education.
