Isha Johansen Unveils CAF Coaching Course for Women in Sierra Leone's Prisons

Madam Isha Johansen, a distinguished FIFA counsel member and the visionary behind Football For Reform and Fashion for Change initiatives, has partnered with FIFA and CAF to inaugurate the CAF License D Coaching Course for female inmates. This historic event unfolded at the Sierra Leone Female Correctional Centre within the Special Court Building in Freetown on November 23, 2023.

 

The transformative CAF License D Coaching Course spans five days, engaging a cohort of 30 female inmates in a pioneering effort to integrate football as a tool for positive change and skill development within correctional facilities.

 

Under the leadership of Majidah Nantanda, a highly esteemed CAF instructor from Uganda, the course encompasses daily sessions focusing on football theory, psychological training, and practical field training, providing the participants with diverse football skills.

 

The launching ceremony witnessed the support of distinguished dignitaries, including Meskerem Tadesse Goshime, the head of women’s football at CAF, emphasizing the continental commitment to fostering inclusivity in football. Col. S.S Massaquio, the AG Director General, officially endorsed the event, highlighting collaborative efforts between governmental bodies and football organizations in driving positive social change. The presence of Jodie Reid Seton, Vice President of Liberia Football Association, and Arol Nat-Johnson, Vice President of Sierra Leone Football Association, underscored broad support from the football community.

 

This pioneering venture not only reflects Madam Isha Johansen’s dedication to leveraging football for social change but also emphasizes FIFA and CAF's broader commitment to promoting inclusivity and empowerment. As the CAF License D Coaching Course unfolds in the Sierra Leone Female Correctional Centre, it holds the promise of instilling valuable skills and fostering a sense of purpose among the participating female inmates.
