Joint Follow-up Mission on National Unity Agreement Arrives in Freetown
A high-level delegation of international guarantors, co-led by former Gambian Vice President Fatoumata Jalloh-Tambajang and United Nations Special Representative Leonardo Santo Simao, has arrived in Freetown. The mission is focused on overseeing the continued implementation of Sierra Leone’s National Unity Agreement, a key initiative for maintaining peace and political stability.
This visit is part of ongoing efforts to support peace, democratic governance, and national cohesion after Sierra Leone’s recent political transition. The delegation will meet with government officials, civil society, and other stakeholders to assess the progress of the agreement and address any challenges.
Fatoumata Jalloh-Tambajang highlighted the importance of collective commitment to national unity, noting that while progress has been made, the path to lasting peace requires continuous dialogue and cooperation. Leonardo Santo Simao also reaffirmed the international community’s support for Sierra Leone's peace process.
During their stay, the delegation will conduct consultations and field visits to evaluate the current state of national unity, reconciliation, and development efforts. Their findings will be shared with relevant parties to ensure continued progress in peacebuilding efforts.
