Koidu City Council Launches Saturday Cleaning Initiative to Address Flooding and Boost Environmental Sustainability

The Koidu New Sembehun City Council introduced a city-wide cleaning exercise on October 5, 2024, as part of its efforts to reduce flooding and promote environmental sustainability. Mayor Komba Matthew Sam emphasized the importance of keeping the city clean and attractive for residents, stressing that proper waste management and community involvement are crucial to the success of this initiative.

The cleaning effort, led by the mayor and supported by his team, focused on tackling the environmental challenges faced by the city, particularly flooding. By enhancing sanitation, the initiative aimed to improve the overall health and safety of the local community.

The cleanup was made possible through resources provided by the central government’s Grant for Solid Waste Management, which supported the safe disposal of waste and protection of the environment. Environmental Sanitation Officer Ibrahim Bockarie highlighted the essential role that residents play in maintaining a clean city, urging them to take an active role in keeping their surroundings tidy and sustainable.
