Leone Stars Hold Steady at 122 in FIFA World Rankings
The Sierra Leone national football team, the Leone Stars, has retained its 122nd position in the latest FIFA World Rankings, as released by the world football governing body on Thursday.
With a total of 1149.4 points, the Leone Stars also rank 34th in Africa. This consistent ranking follows their performance in recent international competitions, including the European Championships in Germany and the Copa America in the USA.
In June, the Leone Stars moved up from 126th to 122nd after earning four points in World Cup qualifiers, with a 2-1 victory over Djibouti and a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso.
The top three African teams remain unchanged: Morocco (14th), Senegal (19th), and Egypt (36th). Ivory Coast ranks fourth in Africa at 38th.
Globally, Argentina continues to lead after defending their Copa America title, followed by France. Spain, the Euro 2024 champions, gained the most points, moving up to third, ahead of England and Brazil.
The next FIFA world ranking update is scheduled for September 19, 2024.
