Liberia and Sierra Leone Collaborate to Strengthen Governance

In a significant move towards regional cooperation, Liberia's Cabinet Director General Nathaniel T. Kwabo met with his Sierra Leonean counterpart, John Somaliah, to discuss strategies for improving governance and public service delivery in both countries.

The high-level meeting, held on November 21, 2024, in Freetown during President Joseph Boakai’s state visit to Sierra Leone, centered on exchanging ideas to enhance cabinet operations and foster accountability.

A key focus of the discussions was Sierra Leone’s Performance Management and Compliance System (PMCS), a framework that has improved efficiency and accountability in government institutions. Somaliah provided an in-depth overview of the system, sharing both its successes and challenges.

Kwabo expressed interest in adopting similar strategies in Liberia to boost transparency and efficiency. Both leaders emphasized the value of cross-border learning and agreed to organize study tours to build the capacity of their cabinet staff.

The collaboration extends to their involvement in the Africa Cabinet Government Network, where they aim to promote evidence-based policies and effective governance across the continent.

This partnership marks a milestone in Liberia-Sierra Leone relations, reflecting a shared commitment to improving governance, addressing socio-economic challenges, and fostering regional solidarity. Through mutual support and shared knowledge, the two nations are paving the way for more efficient and responsive public institutions that better serve their citizens.
