Majority Leader Applauds Parliament, Reinforces President's Commitment to National Unity

During a five-day debate on President Julius Maada Bio’s recent address to Parliament, Majority Leader Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma commended Members of Parliament for their contributions, stressing the importance of fostering national unity, economic growth, and agricultural advancement.

Nyuma praised the constructive nature of the discussions and reaffirmed President Bio’s dedication to peace and national development. Reflecting on Bio’s history in Sierra Leone's political landscape, Nyuma highlighted his long-standing commitment to democracy and national cohesion. He referenced the President’s address, which outlined peace, stability, and inclusiveness as key foundations for the country’s future.

Nyuma also urged MPs to avoid politicizing the agricultural sector, a top priority for President Bio in the drive for food security. He acknowledged the work of past administrations while emphasizing Bio’s unique leadership in agriculture, which has attracted significant support from international donors. He called for cross-party collaboration to strengthen the nation’s agricultural and economic resilience.

On economic issues, Nyuma praised the achievements of the National Revenue Authority in boosting revenue, contrasting this with the challenging economic conditions inherited by the current administration. He argued that President Bio’s government has set the country on a path toward recovery and has gained substantial confidence from international partners. Despite ongoing challenges faced by Sierra Leoneans, he asserted that progress is visible under Bio’s leadership.

Highlighting strides in human capital, particularly in education, Nyuma noted that these efforts have raised Sierra Leone’s profile on the global stage. He concluded by urging MPs to prioritize Sierra Leone’s national interests, stressing the need for unity and a shared commitment to the nation’s continued progress.
