Mike Berewa resigns as Director of Communications at the Office of the President

Freetown Presidential Office Director of Public Affairs Michael Belair "Mick Belewa" has resigned from his position and returned to his base in the United States.

It has learned that Mr. Berewa resigned shortly after the conclusion of 2023 presidential campaign and left the country in August.

It was also observed that Berewa changed his Facebook bio to ``Worked in the Office of the President of Sierra Leone''. Previously, he was ``Director of Communications, Office of the President of Sierra Leone''.

It may be recalled that the political commentator and social media influencer was appointed to the post on October 13, 2022 amid criticism and mixed reactions from the public. In this position, Berewa was efficient in creating his audio-visual content for his media, especially social and to enhance government activities and projects. His sudden resignation after less than a year in office was not particularly known to Sierraloaded at the time of writing.

Speculation suggests that Mr. Brewa may not have had the necessary resources or autonomy to carry out his duties effectively. These rumors also indicate that he may not receive sufficient support from the executive branch, which could hinder the successful implementation of his plans. These claims, which have not yet been confirmed, highlight concerns about the functioning of the communications sector and the government's efforts to support it.

Prominent whistleblower Dr. John Idris Lahai commented on the development, citing President Bio's controversial "work now, get paid later" scheme, colloquially known as "truss work". It was argued that the policy may have forced Mr Berewa to leave his post in the state parliament.

Lahai said Berewa was already facing financial difficulties before he resigned, with his salary and benefits having been garnished at least once.

Murda's "skilled jobs" or "work now, get paid later" policy almost killed Mike Berewa. How can people work without a salary? Myk 4 was first pruned before I left work. Mike said he would no longer do truss work. Money nahanbak nagrun. Adop convinces Mike to return to America. 😂,” Lahai wrote.

Although Berewa has resigned, he continues to visibly promote the government's activities on social media, as he did before he took office.
