"Minister Augusta James-Teima Empowers Women's Football with Symbolic Kick-Off at Women's Premier League Opening in Bo"

On December 26, 2023, the Women's Premier League kicked off at the Southern Arena in Bo, with a notable and symbolic gesture by the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima. Taking the first kick to mark the commencement of the league, Madam James-Teima expressed her elation and pride in being present not only as the Minister of Sports but also as a woman deeply involved in football.

 

In her opening remarks, the Minister conveyed her joy at witnessing women's increased participation in football, emphasizing the significance of the moment. The inaugural match featured a clash between Ram Kay and Mogbwemo Queens, and Madam James-Teima commended both teams for their commendable performance. She extended congratulations to Mogbwemo Queens and offered words of encouragement to Ram Kay FC.

 

Acknowledging the busy schedule of the First Lady, H.E Dr. Fatima Bio, Madam James-Teima conveyed her support for the league on behalf of the First Lady, expressing hope that she would be able to watch the grand final. The Minister also shared the enthusiasm of President H.E JMB for football, extending congratulations to the organizers and expressing the government's readiness to provide financial support as long as the league continues to contribute positively to the community.

 

Madam James-Teima took the opportunity to appreciate the efforts of Brother Babadi Kamara for creating a modern stadium that enhances sports development in the country. Positive statements resonated from various officials, including the Regional Minister South, Mohamed Alie, Mr. Mohamed K. Turay representing the Minister of Gender and Children's Affairs, NSA Boss Dr. Kenneth Brima, and Premier League Board Chairman, Victor Lewis.

 

These officials highlighted the government's financial commitment to football development and congratulated the Women's Premier League Board Members for their commendable efforts. The Chairlady of the Board, Catherine Sillah, expressed gratitude to Madam Minister, government officials, and sports authorities for gracing the opening match and expressed confidence that the league would progress peacefully.

 

The inaugural event of the Women's Premier League not only marked the beginning of an exciting sports competition but also underscored the growing importance of women's participation in football, receiving support and acknowledgment from key government figures.
