Ministry of Planning and Economic Development Halts Operations of 25 NGOs for Non-Compliance
In a significant move to uphold regulatory standards and ensure accountability within the non-governmental organization (NGO) sector, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) has suspended the operations of 25 NGOs in Sierra Leone. This decisive action comes in response to a comprehensive review of the operational landscape, revealing widespread non-compliance with established regulatory requirements.
The press release issued by MoPED underscores the critical importance of adherence to prescribed standards by NGOs to safeguard public trust and resources. Among the key findings highlighted in the review was the absence of identifiable offices in Sierra Leone, a fundamental criterion for compliance with the NGO policy framework.
While acknowledging the valuable contributions of NGOs to societal development, MoPED reiterated the necessity of upholding regulatory standards to effectively fulfill their missions and ensure transparent utilization of resources. As custodians of public trust, NGOs are expected to operate with integrity and accountability, aligning their activities with established guidelines and policies.

As the suspended NGOs undergo a period of review and reassessment, MoPED remains committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance within the NGO sector. This proactive approach reflects the ministry's dedication to upholding regulatory standards and safeguarding the interests of the Sierra Leonean public.
