NMDHR Educates Kambia Students on HPV Vaccination and Cervical Cancer Prevention
The Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (NMDHR) has launched an awareness campaign in Kambia District to promote the uptake of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and reduce cervical cancer risks among women and girls.
The initiative involved visits to ten schools, including Kolenten Junior Secondary School and Linda Koroma Girls Junior Secondary School, where students were educated about the causes, impacts, and prevention of HPV.
Speaking during the campaign, Programs Director Nabieu Kamara highlighted that HPV is a leading cause of cervical cancer, which can have devastating consequences, including death. He emphasized the availability of HPV vaccines at clinics and health units, urging eligible girls to take advantage of this preventive measure.
The campaign also introduced HPV School Health Clubs, with members serving as ambassadors to encourage vaccination. Kamara reassured students of ongoing support from health teams, noting that vaccination is a routine service available at local health facilities.
The effort aims to ensure widespread vaccine access and awareness, protecting girls from the lifelong risks associated with the virus.
