NSA Boss Sets New Criteria For Sporting Associations That Want to Compete Internationally
In a significant move aimed at revitalizing Sierra Leone's sporting landscape, the newly appointed Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, has outlined stringent criteria for sporting associations aspiring to compete internationally.
Addressing representatives from the Sierra Leone Boxing Association during their presentation of international fighters at the NSA's Signal Hill office, Dr. Abdulai emphasized the imperative for sporting associations to conduct national competitions as a prerequisite for NSA support. He stressed that sustainability is key, indicating that the government's backing will be contingent on associations' ability to organize and fund national-level events.
Furthermore, Dr. Abdulai underscored the NSA's commitment to enhancing coaching capacity and bolstering regional competitions through increased budget allocations and improved monitoring mechanisms. He expressed gratitude for the Ministry of Sport's support, signaling a collaborative effort towards advancing Sierra Leone's sporting agenda.
Assuming leadership from Dr. Kenneth Brima, who served as the NSA Director for five years, Dr. Abdulai inherits the challenge of reinvigorating the NSA's projects to ensure effectiveness and youth engagement in sports.
Under the previous administration, only a select few of the registered sporting associations received government funding, leaving many struggling to finance their activities. Dr. Brima disclosed that only five associations—Football, Athletics, Cricket, Volleyball, and Basketball—were prioritized for funding due to constraints faced by the Finance Ministry, leaving others to fend for themselves.
With high expectations pinned on Dr. Abdulai, sports enthusiasts anticipate equitable resource allocation across all sporting disciplines, avoiding favoritism towards football. The upcoming tenure is poised to witness a concerted effort towards fostering inclusivity and development in Sierra Leone's sports sector.
As the NSA embarks on a new era under Dr. Abdulai's stewardship, the emphasis lies on fostering a thriving sporting ecosystem that not only promotes excellence but also nurtures talent and fosters national pride.
