Police Denies Allegations of Mistreatment and Misappropriation of Peacekeepers’ Allowances
The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has strongly denied claims that former peacekeeping officers were mistreated or held in solitary confinement at Police Headquarters. These allegations, spread through local media and social platforms, also accuse the Executive Management Board (EMB) of embezzling the officers’ allowances.
In response, the SLP's Media and Public Relations Department labeled the accusations as false and misleading. They clarified that peacekeepers, who returned from Somalia in October 2023, were given time off before resuming regular duties, contrary to claims of confinement. The SLP also stressed that peacekeeper allowances are managed by the African Union, not the EMB, and assured that any outstanding payments are being addressed.
The statement urged the public to rely on verified information to avoid undermining the police's credibility.
