President Bio Arrives in Ethiopia for Global Conference on Ending Hunger

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to take part in the World Without Hunger Conference from November 5-7, 2024.

Invited as a special guest and speaker, President Bio joins a diverse group of world leaders, policymakers, and experts focused on addressing hunger and food insecurity globally. The conference, organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the African Union Commission, and Ethiopia's government, brings together heads of state, ministers, UN officials, private sector leaders, and civil society representatives to explore solutions to hunger and food challenges.

Key topics at the conference will include increasing food production, improving irrigation and infrastructure, advancing livestock development, and promoting sustainable agriculture. Strategies to enhance social safety nets and disaster preparedness will also be discussed, with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

President Bio is scheduled to speak at a high-level forum, where he will share Sierra Leone’s efforts to boost food security, highlighting initiatives like the Feed Salone program aimed at empowering rural communities and strengthening sustainable farming practices.

His participation underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to combatting hunger and fostering collaboration with international partners on food security. This engagement also opens avenues for strengthening ties with other nations and stakeholders working to improve nutrition and agricultural resilience across Africa and beyond.
