President Bio Attends UBA Africa Reception 2024 at UNGA 79
On September 25, 2024, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone and First Lady Fatima Bio attended an exclusive cocktail reception in New York, hosted by Tony Elumelu, Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA). The event took place on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and marked the 75th anniversary of UBA Group, as well as the 40th anniversary of UBA America.
The reception gathered global dignitaries, including heads of state from São Tomé and Príncipe, Liberia, Gabon, and Ghana. Notable figures such as Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, business magnate Aliko Dangote, and US Senator Chris Coons were also present.
With the theme “Celebrating Culture, Collaboration, and Innovation,” the event aimed to foster discussions on Africa’s future. Guests enjoyed African cultural showcases, traditional cuisine, and a performance by artist Davido.
Tony Elumelu highlighted UBA’s commitment to Africa’s economic growth, youth employment, and energy transition, emphasizing the importance of empowering young entrepreneurs. He also met with Jamaica’s Prime Minister to explore potential partnerships between Africa and the Caribbean.
This event underscored UBA’s ongoing dedication to addressing key challenges in Africa, including economic empowerment and sustainable energy, while celebrating its global impact over the last seven decades. With over 500 influential attendees, it showcased UBA’s leadership in promoting Africa’s interests on the world stage.
