President Bio Calls for Unity and Celebrates Sierra Leone’s Progress in Christmas Address
In his annual Christmas message, President Julius Maada Bio highlighted Sierra Leone’s achievements in 2024 while emphasizing the need for unity and compassion during the festive season.
Reflecting on the year’s challenges and triumphs, the President praised the resilience of Sierra Leoneans, acknowledging the contributions of farmers, healthcare workers, security forces, educators, and business owners in fostering national growth.
President Bio celebrated Sierra Leone’s historic return to the United Nations Security Council, describing it as a milestone that amplifies Africa’s voice globally. He also acknowledged progress in governance, electoral reforms, and economic development, citing over $1 billion in international support secured during the year. Key initiatives included the $480 million Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact to enhance energy infrastructure and substantial investments in food security and renewable energy.
He noted improvements in reducing dependence on imported food staples and stabilizing the economy, with a stronger exchange rate and reduced fuel prices. These efforts, he said, align with the government’s commitment to sustainable development under the Peak 5 Agenda.
Urging citizens to embrace love, tolerance, and mutual respect, the President encouraged acts of kindness toward the less fortunate and reiterated the importance of unity. He recognized the contributions of the youth and honored the wisdom of elders while expressing gratitude to Sierra Leoneans abroad for their support.
As he concluded, President Bio reaffirmed his dedication to national service and extended warm wishes for the holiday season, calling for prayers for continued peace and progress in the coming year.
“May your homes be filled with laughter, your hearts with hope, and your lives with the joy of the season,” he said.
