President Bio Enacts Law Banning Child Marriage
Sierra Leone's President, Julius Maada Bio, has officially signed into law a bill that prohibits child marriage in the country.
During a significant event at the Freetown Conference Centre, President Bio announced the enactment of the Prohibiting Child Marriage Bill as part of the #WeAreEqual campaign launch.
The President emphasized his commitment to creating a future where girls in Sierra Leone can thrive in an environment that ensures their protection, equality, and empowerment. He expressed his gratitude towards First Lady Fatima Bio, acknowledging her passionate advocacy for women's and girls' rights, which has been instrumental in this legislative achievement.
President Bio highlighted his belief in the potential of the country's female population and stressed the importance of supporting future generations of girls. He concluded his speech by thanking the First Ladies present at the event for their support of the #WeAreEqual campaign and invited them to enjoy Sierra Leonean hospitality.
