President Bio Engages ECOWAS Ambassadors in the Aftermath of Failed Coup Attempt
President Bio held a productive meeting with Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) ambassadors on November 30, 2023, addressing the recent failed coup attempt on Sunday, November 26, 2023.
During the meeting, attended by ambassadors from Ghana, Nigeria, Guinea, Liberia, and The Gambia, President Bio assured them that the situation was under control, emphasizing enhanced security measures. He reiterated his commitment to the "Big Five Game changers": FEED SALONE, Human Capital Development, Youth Empowerment, Revamping Public Service Architecture, and Sustained Economic Growth through Technology and Infrastructure.
Nigeria's High Commissioner, Henry John Omaku, expressed solidarity, emphasizing ECOWAS's stance against unlawful power takeovers. He conveyed Nigeria and ECOWAS's readiness to provide full support to Sierra Leone in case of any assistance request.
Ghana's High Commissioner, Mrs. Worwornyo Agyeman, highlighted the interconnectedness of the two countries and announced the visit of ECOWAS standby forces to the ECOWAS logistics depot in Lungi on Friday, November 2023.
The ambassadors from The Gambia, Liberia, and Guinea expressed support for President Bio's government. Guinea affirmed compliance with ECOWAS protocols, including border controls.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba, expressed the government's gratitude and called for collaborative efforts between neighboring Liberia and Guinea.
