Prime Suspect Arrested in Case of Missing 9-Year-Old Boy
The Mile 91 Police Division has arrested Abdul Saybom Bangura, the prime suspect in the disappearance of a nine-year-old boy in Marunia Village, Kholifa Mabang, Tonkolili District.
Mohamed Kamara had been under Bangura’s care when he went missing in March 2024, leaving the community in distress. Despite initial suspicions from residents, Bangura was released after his first arrest, raising concerns about political interference due to his affiliation with the ruling party.
After a year of persistent pleas for justice from the boy’s mother and the community, Bangura reportedly admitted to the crime in several WhatsApp audio clips. During a dispute with political opponents, he confessed to handing over the child to the former Regent Chief of Kholifa Mabang, who also serves as a local political leader.
Following the circulation of these recordings, Bangura was declared wanted and went into hiding. He was eventually captured in Makondu, a village near Mile 91, but managed to escape with the help of accomplices. Authorities later arrested several individuals who had aided his escape.
Bangura was ultimately re-arrested near the Sierra Leone-Guinea border by family members of those initially detained for assisting him. He has since been transferred back to the Mile 91 police station for further investigation.
The public remains vigilant, calling on authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and prevent any political interference in the case. The community continues to demand justice for the missing child.
