Security Forces Starve as SLPP Government Fails to Deliver Promised Rice Rations

Thousands of security personnel in Sierra Leone have gone without their monthly rice rations for four consecutive months, sparking outrage and deepening mistrust toward the SLPP-led government. More than 25,000 members of the armed forces, police, and correctional services are reportedly affected.

The delay, allegedly caused by the Ministry of Finance’s failure to pay over 300 billion old Leones owed to rice suppliers, has brought food distribution to a halt. Officers say they’ve been fed only excuses while continuing to serve a government that, in their eyes, has abandoned them.

“This feels like punishment for our loyalty,” one officer lamented, describing rising anger and despair in the barracks.

While the government remains silent, reports highlight continued spending on luxury travel and other non-essential projects. Critics argue this exposes the administration’s priorities—rewarding the elite while neglecting the country’s frontline defenders.

Morale within the security sector is plummeting, raising concerns about national stability. Observers warn that this crisis goes beyond logistics—it's a breach of duty and a threat to national security.

Calls are growing for the government to urgently address the issue and restore dignity to the country’s uniform

ed personnel.
