Sengeh Urges Sierra Leoneans Abroad to Partner in Building the Nation

Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has called on citizens living abroad to work hand in hand with the government in driving national development.

Speaking at the United States edition of the Civic Day Series on September 30, 2025, Dr. Sengeh expressed deep gratitude to Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora for their consistent contributions to the country’s progress.

He praised the visible impact of their investments, particularly in key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and education. “We see the difference you are making — from funding hospitals and schools to building new businesses across Sierra Leone. Your contributions matter,” he said.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the value of the diaspora lies both in human capital development and financial investment. He emphasized that Sierra Leoneans abroad contribute not just through money, but also by sharing knowledge, volunteering, and supporting innovation.

Dr. Sengeh noted that stronger partnerships between the government and the diaspora will help accelerate national goals such as Agenda 2063, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, and the National Development Plan 2039.

“We must all become problem-solvers,” he said. “That is the only way we can truly move our nation forward.”

He encouraged Sierra Leoneans abroad to go beyond criticism and instead play an active role in shaping solutions. “The most powerful thing the diaspora can do is to be part of the solution, not just the conversation,” he added.

Dr. Sengeh reaffirmed that President Bio’s administration values the contributions of Sierra Leoneans living abroad and remains committed to building stronger collaborations that drive growth and development across the country.
