Sierra Leone’s President Urges for Stronger Global Cooperation at UN Summit

At the United Nations Summit of the Future, Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio and Ireland’s Prime Minister Simon Harris led a discussion centered on improving global collaboration for peace and security.

President Bio emphasized the critical need for united efforts to address global challenges such as conflict, terrorism, climate change, and health crises. He stressed that these issues transcend borders and require a collective approach.

Drawing from Sierra Leone's post-conflict experience, Bio highlighted the importance of international partnerships in peacebuilding. He acknowledged the contributions of organizations like the United Nations, the African Union, and ECOWAS in promoting reconciliation in his country.

Bio also raised concerns about rising geopolitical tensions and nationalism, which he sees as significant threats to global stability. He called for reforms in international institutions, particularly advocating for the restructuring of the UN Security Council to give Africa greater representation.

In his closing remarks, President Bio urged global leaders to embrace a cooperative approach in tackling present and future crises, stating that a stronger multilateral system is essential for the world's stability.
