Sierra Leone and Guinea Strengthen Digital Ties Through Connectivity Handshake Meeting

In a significant step towards enhancing digital collaboration, the governments of Sierra Leone and Guinea have come together to initiate a joint effort aimed at improving connectivity between the two nations. This initiative was formalized during a meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation (MPTEN), where key stakeholders from both countries gathered to discuss the technical aspects of linking their terrestrial fiber networks.

Leading the discussions were Minister Salima Monorma Bah of Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation, and her Guinean counterpart, the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy. Both ministers emphasized the importance of establishing a robust and reliable cross-border communication infrastructure. This infrastructure is expected to not only facilitate seamless data transfer between the two nations but also stimulate their digital economies and strengthen the resilience of their respective networks.

The meeting also focused on several critical areas of cooperation, including the development of shared infrastructure, the launch of joint initiatives to boost the digital sector, and the exchange of technical expertise. The involvement of private sector players such as LeoneCom and Zoodlabs SL is anticipated to accelerate the realization of these objectives, underscoring a collaborative approach that spans both public and private sectors.

One of the key benefits of connecting their fiber networks is the reduced reliance on submarine cables, which are often vulnerable to service disruptions. By enhancing terrestrial connectivity, Sierra Leone and Guinea aim to create a more stable and secure digital environment for their citizens and businesses. Additionally, the partnership is expected to foster knowledge sharing between the two nations, promoting mutual growth in the rapidly evolving digital space.

This meeting marks a significant milestone in the digital partnership between Sierra Leone and Guinea, reflecting a shared commitment to leveraging technology for the betterment of their people and economies. Further developments and detailed plans are expected to emerge as the collaboration progresses.
