Sierra Leone Bar Association Responds to Aggrieved Presidential Aspirants

On May 27, 2024, the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) received a notice of requisition from Augustine S. Marrah and Wara Serry-Kamal, calling for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). This request has prompted a detailed response from the President and Directors of the SLBA, addressing the concerns raised by the former presidential candidates.

In their letter, the SLBA highlighted that the public request included several duplicated names among the signatories. They clarified that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the SLBA had been conducted on May 17-18, 2024, in Kenema, in accordance with the High Court of Sierra Leone's rulings by Hon. Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens (JA) and Hon. Justice Unisa Kamara.

The SLBA pointed out that many of the members who signed the requisition notice had actively participated in the AGM. This meeting saw the election of new Directors as per the SLBA’s Memorandum and Articles of Association and the Companies Act of 2009 (as amended). The new executive members announced on May 20, 2024, include Tuma Adama Jabbie (President), Sidikie Tommy (Vice President), Alfred Paul Juwah (General Secretary), Abubakarr Sidique Kamara (Assistant General Secretary), Satto Kobba (Treasurer), Yoko Mahiteh Brewah (Assistant Treasurer), and Alfred Kamanda (Public Relations Officer) for the term 2024-2026.

The SLBA expressed sincere appreciation for the outgoing directors under the leadership of Michaela Eddinia Swallow, acknowledging their dedication and service to the association. The letter emphasized the new executive’s commitment to building on the achievements of their predecessors.

Furthermore, the SLBA indicated that preparations for convening an Extraordinary General Meeting were already at an advanced stage. A notice regarding this meeting would be issued to the general membership in due course. The association encouraged all members to show mutual respect and adhere to due process during these proceedings.
