Sierra Leone Football Officials Attend AFCON 2025 Draw in Morocco
The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Thomas Daddy Brima, and Rodney Michael, Chairman of Mighty Blackpool FC, attended the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Final Draw in Rabat, Morocco.
Invited by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the event took place at the Mohammed V National Theatre and highlighted the excitement leading up to the tournament.
Despite the occasion, President Brima expressed disappointment over Sierra Leone’s failure to qualify for this edition of AFCON. Reflecting on the nation’s absence, he reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring Sierra Leone’s participation in future tournaments. “We will do everything within our power to secure our spot in the continent’s biggest football event,” he stated.
Brima's tenure has seen notable success, including Sierra Leone’s historic qualification for the 2021 AFCON after more than 20 years. This achievement remains a source of pride for Sierra Leoneans, and Brima is determined to replicate this feat in upcoming competitions.
Rodney Michael, Chairman of Mighty Blackpool FC and a key figure in the African Club Association, joined Brima in Morocco. His involvement demonstrates his dedication to the development of Sierra Leonean and African football.
While Sierra Leone will not be part of this year’s tournament, the efforts of Brima and Michael lay the foundation for a brighter future in the sport. The AFCON 2025 promises to be a celebration of Africa’s football talent, with hopes that Sierra Leone will soon return to the continental stage.
