
Sierra Leone Government Sets Retail Rice Prices Across Districts
The Sierra Leonean government has officially announced the retail prices of a 50kg bag of parboiled rice for district headquarters nationwide. The Ministry of Trade and Industry, alongside the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, the Sierra Leone Police, and the Indigenous Transporters Association, collaborated to determine these prices, following a prior commitment made on January 7, 2025.
Here are the newly set prices for a 50kg bag of rice:
Western Urban and Rural: SLL 830
Bo: SLL 848
Kenema and Kono: SLL 849
Makeni: SLL 846
Kabala: SLL 851
Portloko: SLL 849
Kailahun and Kambia: SLL 853
Mattru, Kamakwei, and Pujehun: SLL 860
Moyamba: SLL 850
Falaba: SLL 870
Tonkolili: SLL 848
The Ministry clarified that these rates include all associated costs from wholesale to retail. It urged retailers and citizens to adhere to the specified prices to ensure fairness and consistency.
The government acknowledged the cooperation of the Sierra Leone Police and transporters in stabilizing prices, reiterating its commitment to making rice accessible and affordable for all citizens.
