Sierra Leone Launches Construction of 300-Bed Jembe Regional Hospital
President Julius Maada Bio has allocated 5 billion old Leones to landowners in Jembe, initiating the construction of a state-of-the-art 300-bed regional hospital. The facility, located along the Bo/Kenema highway, is set to transform healthcare services in Sierra Leone.
The Jembe Regional Hospital will feature a medical campus including schools for medicine, pharmacy, and nursing, designed to establish a hub for advanced healthcare training and services. Myk Berewa, Director of Communication for the State House, described the project as a pivotal step in improving healthcare and medical education in the country.
With the capacity to treat up to 1,000 patients daily, the hospital aims to attract both local and international patients, promoting medical tourism and boosting the national economy. It is also expected to reduce the nation’s reliance on overseas medical treatments, which currently cost the government $3 million annually.
Construction is set to begin immediately, with the project promising to improve healthcare access for underserved communities while advancing Sierra Leone’s medical capabilities.
