Sierra Leone Military Joins Forces with NSA to Prioritize Sports and Fitness Among Officers

The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has initiated a collaborative effort with the National Sports Authority (NSA) to promote sports and fitness within its ranks. Spearheaded by discussions between Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq, the head of NSA, and senior military officials from the Armed Forces Technical and Education College (AFTEC), this endeavor aims to construct a gymnasium at the Wilberforce Military Barracks in Freetown.

The meeting, held at the NSA Headquarters in Freetown on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, underscored the significance of integrating physical exercise with education, particularly in a field like the military, where physical prowess is integral. Dr. Abdulai stressed the untapped potential of sports within Sierra Leone's military and welcomed the opportunity to collaborate for its development.

Acknowledging resource constraints, Dr. Abdulai assured AFTEC of NSA's commitment to supporting their efforts. Lieutenant Colonel Mamby, representing AFTEC, expressed gratitude for the prompt response to their meeting request and appreciated Dr. Abdulai's dedication to advancing sports within the military. This partnership symbolizes a substantial stride towards instilling a culture of sports within the military and promoting physical well-being among its personnel.

The establishment of a gymnasium at the Wilberforce Military Barracks will provide RSLAF members access to modern facilities for training and fitness activities. Beyond physical health benefits, the initiative aims to foster camaraderie and teamwork among soldiers through sports engagement.

This collaboration between RSLAF and NSA marks a positive step towards enhancing the overall well-being and readiness of Sierra Leone's military personnel through sports and fitness activities.
