"Sierra Leone Police Spearheads Community Peace Initiative in Harbour Division, Promoting Nonviolence and Positive Relationships"

In a bid to foster positive relationships and promote community well-being, the Sierra Leone Police Force's Community Relations Department, under the guidance of the Inspector General of Police, collaborated with CRD teams from Eastern, Harbour, and Kissy Police Divisions, alongside members of the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB). On January 16, 2024, they embarked on a comprehensive peace and nonviolence sensitization campaign across various communities within the Harbour Division.

Recognizing the global shift towards community-oriented policing, the Sierra Leone Police aims to bridge the gap between law enforcement and citizens through proactive initiatives. This approach involves leveraging community members to enhance understanding, trust, and a collective commitment to creating safer and more harmonious neighborhoods.

Before commencing the sensitization campaign, CSP Emmanuel Kpulun, the Local Unit Commander of the Harbour Division, welcomed the CRD Team led by Superintendent Sao Conteh. He encouraged the personnel to demonstrate high professionalism in delivering their peace and nonviolent messages to the community.

Supt. Sao Conteh highlighted the crucial role of sensitization programs in dispelling misconceptions and building trust within communities. The team visited several communities, including Up Gun Community, Keke Union Head Office at Black Hall Road, Mamba Ridge Moyeba Community, Bottom Mango, PWD, Africanus Road, Ferry Junction, and Bike Riders Union Head Office in Race Course Community.

During these engagements, key speakers such as Supt. Sao Conteh, Melbourne Greene (LPPB), Sgt. 9585 Dumbuya E.S, and Sgt 8623 Turay M.B delivered messages emphasizing the paramount importance of peace for national development. They also warned against political conflicts, urging members of the public to be law-abiding.

Josephine Nansu Yarjah, the National Deputy Chairlady of Bike Riders, pleaded with her members and the community to refrain from violence, emphasizing the negative impact it could have on the peace and development of the country.

The initiative received positive feedback from passersby, who appreciated the team's efforts, promising to convey the importance of sustaining peace and abstaining from violence, as advocated by the police.
