"Sierra Leone Secures Third Place in ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier"

Sierra Leone's Emma Kamara made history by scoring 108 runs in the nation's final match against Mozambique during the ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier, held on Tuesday in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Junior Women’s Patriots finished in third place after four consecutive victories against Eswatini, Lesotho, Botswana, and Mozambique. However, they suffered defeats to Kenya and Malawi, attributed to jetlag.

Emma Kamara's performance was remarkable, becoming a centenarian in the tournament by hitting 108 runs off 74 balls, including 18 fours, with a strike rate of 145.95. She now ranks second in the tournament's Most Valuable Player standings, just behind Kenya’s Melvin Khagoitsa with a score of 45.70.

Kamara's achievements didn’t go unnoticed as she earned three Player of the Match awards, while her teammate Susan Sesay claimed one in the match against Botswana. On the tournament’s batting chart, Kamara is third with 274 runs, trailing Kenya’s Kreeshna Mehta, who leads with 288 runs.

In recognition of her outstanding performance, Cricket Sierra Leone has awarded Emma Kamara a $100 bonus, a year-long professional contract, and a kit bag containing essential cricket gear.

Earlier on Tuesday, Sierra Leone defeated Botswana by seven wickets, scoring 65 for the loss of 3 wickets in just 10.2 overs. Botswana managed only 64 runs for five wickets in their 20 overs. Later in the day, Sierra Leone registered 157 runs for five wickets in 20 overs against Mozambique, who replied with 88 runs for nine wickets in 18.3 overs, securing a 69-run victory for the Junior Women’s Patriots.

Kenya and Malawi will advance to the Africa Finals, joining other top-ranked teams, including Zimbabwe.
