Sierra Leone to Welcome Liberian and Gambian Police Chiefs for Regional Security Talks

Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, will host the police chiefs of Liberia and The Gambia in Freetown for a three-day meeting focused on strengthening regional security and improving cross-border cooperation.

Liberia’s Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman and The Gambia’s Police Chief Seedy Touray are expected to arrive on November 17. Their visit is part of broader efforts to expand joint operations, improve intelligence sharing, and boost the fight against organised crime across West Africa.

According to the Sierra Leone Police, the meetings are expected to deepen the long-standing security partnership among the three countries and reinforce coordination on major threats affecting the region.

Sellu, who also chairs the West Africa Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), will lead the high-level discussions.

Security experts have welcomed the engagement, noting rising concerns about drug trafficking and the movement of narcotics across borders. Recent months have seen a noticeable increase in seizures of Kush and cannabis along the Sierra Leone–Liberia border, prompting renewed calls for stronger collaborative policing.
