Sierra Leone U-17 Girls Beat Liberia 3-0 in WAFU-A Tournament

Sierra Leone’s U-17 Girls continued their winning streak at the WAFU-A U-17 Girls Tournament in Liberia, defeating the host nation 3-0 in a commanding performance that has strengthened their title hopes.

The Young Queens have now recorded back-to-back victories, following their opening 2-1 win against Senegal earlier in the week. Their teamwork, energy, and clinical finishing have made them one of the standout teams in the competition.

The match against Liberia started brightly for Sierra Leone, with Marian Sankoh calmly converting a penalty in the 4th minute to put her side ahead. Sankoh, who has been outstanding throughout the tournament, once again earned the Player of the Match award.

By the 17th minute, Ruth Bawoh doubled the lead with a well-placed strike from outside the box, giving Sierra Leone a comfortable 2-0 cushion going into halftime.

In the second half, forward Maseray Turay sealed the victory with a composed finish inside the penalty area, leaving Liberia with no way back.

Liberia’s Musu Nuah and Yatta Jaliebah showed flashes of skill with their dribbles and long-range efforts, but Sierra Leone’s pressing game and physical dominance proved too much.

With two wins out of two and five goals scored, Sierra Leone now sits at the top of the group with six points. The tournament features a home-and-away format among the three teams: Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Liberia.

Next up, the Young Queens face Senegal again on September 23 in a crucial away match at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex. A positive result there could take them a step closer to lifting the WAFU-A U-17 Girls title.
