South Korea Donates Ultrasound Machines to Sierra Leone’s Military Hospital

The Republic of South Korea has donated ultrasound machines worth $250,000 to the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown.

The donation was made possible through the efforts of First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio during her recent visit to South Korea. It was officially handed over by the South Korean Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Prankyu, on February 5, 2025.

During the presentation, Ambassador Prankyu reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to supporting the hospital. He later toured the facility and received a briefing from Colonel Dr. Stephen Sevalie, the Commandant of Defence Medical Services. Dr. Sevalie highlighted ongoing improvements in infrastructure and healthcare systems, emphasizing the commitment of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) leadership to transforming the hospital into a world-class institution.

Deputy Minister of Defence, Colonel (Rtd) M.B. Massaquoi, expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and military leadership. He assured that the donated equipment would be used effectively and maintained for long-term benefits.
