Star Sports Academy Attends Antalya Cup International Youth Football Tournament in Turkey

The Star Sports Academy of Sierra Leone has departed for Turkey to participate in the 7th Edition of the Antalya Cup International Youth Football Tournament. This prestigious event, held in Antalya City, will take place from May 16 to May 19, 2024. The academy’s involvement marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time a team from Sierra Leone will compete in this historic tournament.

The Antalya Cup is a notable event in the youth football calendar, attracting over a hundred teams from around the world to the Belek Stadium. The Star Sports Academy, known for its commitment to nurturing young talent, aims to showcase its players on an international platform. This exposure is crucial for the development of young athletes, providing them with opportunities to gain recognition and further their football careers.

Mohamed Jusu Tawarally, the head of the Star Sports Academy's media department and the CEO of the delegation, expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament. He highlighted the importance of giving young players a chance to display their skills on a global stage, which aligns with the academy's mission since its inception. Tawarally emphasized that the academy’s participation is not just about competing but also about paving the way for future professional opportunities for these young athletes.

The academy has a track record of successfully placing players in international teams. Notable alumni include Abu Dumbuya, a national team player for Sierra Leone, who currently plays in the ASKA Super League in Cyprus. Other players have secured positions in teams across Europe, such as Atalayspor in Turkey and FDC Vista in Russia. This success underscores the academy’s effectiveness in achieving its goals.

Yankabu Tarawally, the CEO of Star Sports Academy, has been a pivotal figure in this journey. His dedication and personal investment have been instrumental in providing these opportunities, often with little to no external support. His unwavering commitment has brought renewed hope to Sierra Leonean football, ensuring that local players have the best possible platforms to reach the global scene.

The participation in the Antalya Cup is expected to be a transformative experience for the young players of Star Sports Academy. It will not only enhance their skills and exposure but also open doors to potential professional careers in football. The academy’s initiative serves as an inspiring example of how grassroots efforts can make a significant impact on the international sports arena.
