Teacher Released on NLe100,000 Bail for Cyberstalking
Dura Sapateh Fornah, a forty-three-year-old teacher, was granted bail of NLe100,000 by Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown.
Fornah faces charges of cyberstalking and cyberbullying under Section 44(1)(a) of the Cyber Security and Crime Act 2021.
The charges allege that on June 29, 2024, Fornah used WhatsApp to send threatening and damaging messages to Dr. Brian Konton, harming Konton’s reputation and causing him distress. Fornah is also accused of sending additional bullying messages on the same day.
During the court session, Fornah’s defense counsel, C. Kamara Esq., argued for bail, citing Fornah’s residency in Sierra Leone and the presence of reliable sureties. Magistrate Kekura granted the bail with one surety and scheduled the next court appearance for August 15, 2024.
