Tourism Minister Evaluates Progress on Key Projects to Boost Sierra Leone's Tourism

On January 24, 2025, Hon. Nabeela Farida Tunis, Sierra Leone's Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, conducted an inspection of major construction sites funded by the Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project (SLeDEP).

The sites visited included Leicester Peak, Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and the Bureh Town Community. These projects are essential to enhancing the country’s tourism infrastructure.

Speaking during the tour, Minister Tunis emphasized the importance of monitoring progress to ensure timely completion. “This inspection is crucial in keeping us on track to achieve our goal of strengthening Sierra Leone’s tourism sector,” she stated.

The Minister encouraged contractors to accelerate their work to meet the September 2025 deadline. She also noted significant progress at several sites, with some structures already completed, signaling a positive trajectory for the projects.

The Minister was accompanied by senior officials from her ministry, as well as representatives from SLeDEP, including Project Coordinator Mary Jalloh and Tourism Specialist Prince Gaima. Their collaboration underscores the commitment to advancing Sierra Leone’s tourism potential.

These efforts align with the broader vision of positioning Sierra Leone as a top destination in Africa, leveraging its natural and cultural assets to attract visitors and boost the economy.
