Traditional Herbalist Successfully Treats More Than 300 Kush Addicts in Sierra Leone

Hassan Kamara, a traditional herbalist residing at No.5 Consider Lane, Calaba Town in the east end of Freetown, has become a beacon of hope for over 300 individuals struggling with kush addiction and other narcotics. His residence has transformed into a rehabilitation center, currently hosting more than 30 youths eager to overcome their addiction.

In an interview, Kamara shared his journey as a traditional herbalist, citing previous successes in treating mental health issues, witchcraft, and impotency. Kush addiction, a persistent problem in the country, prompted Kamara to take matters into his own hands. Despite government efforts and public awareness campaigns, he claims no one, be it the government, organizations, or individuals, has offered a viable solution to kush addiction except him.

Kamara emphasized that his approach not only involves curing the addiction but also guiding individuals to abstain from further consumption post-treatment. Describing his method, he explained the initial diagnostic process upon admitting an addict, followed by addressing infections in the membrane to stabilize patients' attitudes and behaviors. According to Kamara, all the youths undergoing treatment at his facility exhibit positive transformations and diminished cravings after the medication.

Expressing a growing need for space, Kamara revealed that he has declined many youths due to limited capacity. He urged the government, local and international NGOs, and humanitarian groups to support the construction of a larger rehabilitation center on an adjacent piece of land to meet the increasing demand.

As Kamara continues to provide a path to recovery for those battling kush addiction, his plea for assistance highlights the urgent need for collective efforts to address substance abuse in Sierra Leone.
