UAE Ambassador Urges Sierra Leoneans to Abide by the Law

On August 15, 2024, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Rashid Sesay, engaged with the executive members of the Sierra Leonean community in the Gulf State. During the meeting, he encouraged his compatriots to strictly adhere to UAE laws.

While welcoming the community leaders, Ambassador Sesay emphasized the Embassy's commitment to supporting Sierra Leonean nationals on various welfare issues. He also provided updates on the Embassy's work, including his recent visits to several correctional facilities in Dubai, where Sierra Leonean citizens were being held for various offenses.

The purpose of his visit to these correctional centers was to gather firsthand information from his fellow nationals. Following these visits, he has already initiated discussions with UAE authorities to explore possible solutions.

Ambassador Sesay also expressed the Embassy's willingness to support the effective functioning of the Sierra Leonean community, including efforts to assist in the development of its constitution. He urged the community leadership to collaborate with the Embassy in raising awareness among Sierra Leoneans in the UAE on key issues such as immigration, labor, and employment.

In recent years, the UAE has become a popular destination for many Sierra Leoneans, both as a tourist hotspot and as a place of residence and employment in various sectors. Ambassador Sesay has consistently emphasized the importance of Sierra Leoneans being peaceful, law-abiding, and setting a positive example in their host country.
