Ukraine Reports Russia's Most Intensive Drone Assault Since the Onset of Invasion

Russia Deploys Kamikaze Drones in Intensive Attack on Ukraine, Targeting Kyiv and Energy Infrastructure

Ukraine experienced a significant drone assault, marking the most intense attack since the war's onset. Kyiv, considered the primary target, faced approximately 75 Iranian-made Shahed drones in the early hours of Saturday, with Ukrainian officials claiming to have downed 71. The capital sustained damage, leaving thousands without electricity, but power was restored later in the day. Ukrainian authorities suspect a potential prolonged campaign to cripple energy infrastructure and believe Russia aimed to overwhelm Kyiv's air defenses by sending drones from two different directions.

The attack resulted in injuries and property damage, raising concerns about the onset of winter attacks on infrastructure. US Ambassador Bridget Brink highlighted the cynical timing as temperatures dropped, emphasizing Russia's strategic use of Iranian drones in the assault. Ukrainian officials, anticipating further attacks, are actively preparing for winter strikes on critical infrastructure.
