University of Makeni Mourns the Passing of Its Founder

The University of Makeni (UNIMAK) is mourning the loss of its founder, Bishop Giorgio Biguzzi. His death has deeply impacted the institution and the community he served. Bishop Biguzzi, whose visionary leadership and commitment were fundamental to the establishment and growth of UNIMAK, passed away on July 1, 2024, in Parma, Italy.

 

In an official statement released on July 1, 2024, the university expressed its profound sorrow and extended condolences to Bishop Biguzzi’s family, the Makeni Diocese, and all who were touched by his contributions. Shebora Samba Kamara, Director of UniMak Public Relations Directorate, remarked on the immense influence of Bishop Biguzzi's leadership and faith.

 

"On behalf of the University of Makeni community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Bishop Biguzzi’s family, the Makeni Diocese, and all those whose lives he touched with his remarkable leadership and unwavering faith," Kamara said. 

 

The university's statement highlighted the critical role Bishop Biguzzi played in the institution's history. "Bishop Giorgio Biguzzi was a visionary leader whose dedication and tireless efforts were instrumental in the establishment and growth of UNIMAK," Kamara continued. "His visionary leadership and commitment to education have shaped the foundation upon which our institution stands."

 

Bishop Biguzzi’s passing was announced by the Vicar General of the Makeni Diocese, Reverend Father Dominic Arnold Johnson. The late Bishop Biguzzi held the title of Bishop Emeritus of the Makeni Diocese until his death. His legacy is marked by his unwavering dedication to education and the betterment of the community.

 

The University of Makeni, reflecting on Bishop Biguzzi’s legacy, remains committed to upholding the values and vision he instilled. His influence will continue to inspire future generations of students and educators.
