Update on Suspected Viral Haemorrhagic Fever Case in Kono

Update on Suspected Viral Haemorrhagic Fever Case in Kono

The Government of Sierra Leone, through the National Public Health Agency (NPHA), has provided an update regarding the suspected case of Viral Haemorrhagic Fever (VHF) reported in Kono. Laboratory tests conducted at the 34 Military Hospital Infectious Disease Laboratory have returned an indeterminate result for the case.

The inconclusive test outcome is attributed to the use of formalin, which was applied to preserve the body before the sample collection, potentially affecting the accuracy of the results.

The NPHA confirmed that all individuals who had close contact with the suspected case remain asymptomatic. These contacts are being closely monitored for a 21-day period, with additional tests planned to ensure no symptoms develop.

Both the NPHA and the Ministry of Health have reassured the public about their readiness to handle any potential outbreak. They urge the public to remain calm and only rely on official sources for updates to avoid the spread of misinformation.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation and request cooperation from the public during this observation phase. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
