Urgent Call for Action Against Sale of Hazardous Lands Following Fatal Building Collapses
Health Alert, a prominent advocacy group for health and human rights, has condemned the ongoing sale of prohibited lands by the government. These lands, which include drainage areas, dumping sites, and hills, have been sold to business tycoons, leading to the construction of unsafe buildings. This reckless practice has caused numerous building collapses, resulting in countless deaths.
Victor Lansana Koroma, Executive Director of Health Alert, criticized the government for prioritizing personal gain over public safety, calling the trend "unpatriotic." He demanded immediate action, including investigations into officials involved in these illegal land sales, as well as reforms to prevent future tragedies. Health Alert also called for financial compensation for the victims and warned of potential legal action if their demands are ignored.
The group emphasized the urgent need for stricter oversight of construction projects and the enforcement of professional standards to ensure the safety of buildings. The recent series of deadly collapses has intensified pressure on the government to take swift action to prevent further loss of life.
