Vickie Remoe Defends Chief Minister Sengeh's Mother Against Sylvia Blyden's Remarks

Media personality Vickie Remoe has stepped in to defend the mother of Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh following remarks made by political commentator Sylvia Blyden on social media. Blyden's comments hinted at a forthcoming message directed at Sengeh's mother, prompting a strong response from Remoe.

In her rebuttal, Remoe expressed her disappointment, asserting that no parent should face political attacks, regardless of their child's role in politics. She acknowledged that while Sengeh, as a public figure, is subject to criticism, his mother should be spared from such disputes.

Remoe recounted her emotional response upon Sengeh's appointment as Minister of Education, feeling a mix of happiness for him and fear for the challenges he would face. Despite no longer being close friends, she affirmed her respect for his mother and condemned the inclusion of family members in political conflicts.

Addressing Blyden directly, Remoe criticized her for dragging Sengeh's mother into the political fray, emphasizing that no one deserves to be a target of political hostility.

Blyden's initial post, which ignited the controversy, suggested she had a public message for Sengeh's mother. This followed her claims of internal strife within the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP), including a reported altercation between Sengeh and SLPP youth members in a WhatsApp group, which led to Sengeh leaving the discussion.

Blyden's description of the situation as a "circus" hinted at growing divisions within the ruling party. However, it was her mention of Sengeh's mother that particularly outraged Remoe, who called for a more respectful political dialogue, especially regarding family members not involved in politics.

This exchange underscores the escalating nature of political commentary in Sierra Leone as the country navigates a tense political landscape. Remoe's defense of Sengeh's mother has resonated with many, who agree that personal attacks against the families of public officials cross a crucial line in political discourse.
