WhatsApp to End Support for Older Samsung, LG, and Android Devices

Starting January 1, 2025, WhatsApp will no longer function on certain older smartphones, including devices from Samsung, LG, and other major brands. This decision affects phones running Android KitKat, an operating system released in 2013.

The messaging platform announced that this step is necessary to focus on advancing its features and maintaining reliable and secure services. Impacted users have been notified and advised to back up important information, as devices running outdated software will no longer support WhatsApp.

Users are encouraged to upgrade to phones running Android 5.0 or newer to continue accessing WhatsApp services. The affected models include:

Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini

Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E (2014)

HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601

LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
