EcoFest Faces Indefinite Postponement as Kabaka Grapples with Venue Challenges

Kabaka, also known as Lawyer Abu Bakarr Turay, the proprietor of Kabaka Multimedia Entertainment, has announced the indefinite postponement of EcoFest, the annual Pan-African event. The decision stems from the unavailability of a suitable large-capacity venue. In a Facebook live video on November 18, 2023, Kabaka addressed public concerns about the festival, citing significant losses incurred last year.

He explained that, faced with venue challenges, he organized the festival at the Sierra Leone Football Association Academy’s pitch in Kingtom after the Siaka Steven Stadium, with its large capacity, was deemed unavailable due to ongoing renovations.

Kabaka delved into the struggles he has faced since founding his label five years ago, emphasizing his vision for an enhanced entertainment industry through collective sacrifice. He highlighted efforts to bring trending talents alongside Sierra Leonean entertainers, aiming to propel their careers continent-wide.

Expressing frustration, Kabaka criticized the consistent lack of support, negative back-channeling, improperly constituted policies, and limited understanding of the business side of the industry. He concluded by questioning the readiness of entertainers, noting their tendency to let politics interfere with their conduct and work.
