High-Level Delegation Inspects APOTS for Planned Renovations and Expansion

On July 12th, 2024, a high-ranking delegation led by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Retired Major General Taluva, conducted a thorough inspection of the Advanced Public Order Training School (APOTS) at the Kayinkaysa Police Training School. The entourage included notable figures such as the Police Regional Commander for the Northwest, Victor Manfred Williams, the Director of Training, Mrs. Esther Dukuray, and Madam Tutu Vandi, an engineer from the Ministry of Works.

The primary objective of this visit was to evaluate the current state of the APOTS infrastructure and identify key areas for renovation and expansion. Minister Taluva underscored the pressing need to revamp the existing facilities and construct new quarters to accommodate international trainers who are anticipated to arrive in Sierra Leone soon. These enhancements are critical for the effective training of specialized security personnel.

The APOTS training program is designed to bolster the capabilities of security personnel, particularly those serving as Presidential guards, those assigned to the Vice President, and members of the Operational Support Division (OSD). To support this initiative, the government plans to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with countries renowned for their security expertise, including Nigeria, Egypt, and Rwanda. This collaboration will bring international security experts to Sierra Leone to provide comprehensive training to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).

The planned upgrades to the APOTS facility aim to create a state-of-the-art training environment, equipped with modern amenities. By integrating international expertise, the training program will significantly enhance the skills and knowledge of Sierra Leone's security personnel. These efforts are anticipated to contribute substantially to the maintenance of peace, order, and security within the country.
