Nigerian Musician Majeed Reveals Identity of UNIFEST Organizers He Alleged Scammed Him
Renowned Nigerian musician Majeed, celebrated for his chart-topping track "Money Dae Stop Nonsense," recently took to social media to shed light on what he perceives as an injustice orchestrated by the organizers of Unifest, accusing them of fraud.
The saga unfolded following Majeed's invitation to Sierra Leone by Unifest to headline their December 2023 event. According to Majeed's account, he was only paid a portion of the agreed-upon fee upfront, with the remainder promised upon completion of his performance.
In a public statement shared across social platforms, Majeed posted images of four individuals, identifying them as the key figures behind Unifest SL. Alongside the images, he captioned, "My beloved Sierra Leonean family, these are the individuals from UNIFEST SL who have failed to honor their financial commitments to me."
Unifest, a highly anticipated event featuring prominent artists such as Majeed and Mr. Jay Paul of BBN fame, had negotiated specific fees with the performers. Majeed was slated to receive $10,000, while Mr. Jay Paul was assured $5,000 for their respective performances. Initial payments were made prior to the event, with Majeed receiving $5,000 and Mr. Jay Paul $3,000. The remaining balances were to be settled post-event.
However, following the conclusion of the show, both artists allegedly found themselves at the receiving end of unmet promises. Unifest purportedly cited logistical challenges and pledged to fulfill their financial obligations at a later date. Despite reassurances, there has been no communication or follow-up from Unifest, leaving Majeed and Mr. Jay Paul unpaid and in limbo regarding the situation.
Majeed's allegations have sparked widespread debate on social media, with fans and followers expressing dismay over Unifest's handling of the matter and demanding transparency and accountability in addressing the alleged nonpayment to the artists.
